Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation into the Catholic Church faith community. Through the waters of Baptism, the person enters into the life of God as Creator, Father, Son and Spirit. As an initiation, the child or person is dedicated to God and all that is good.

Requirements

One parent needs to be a Baptised Catholic. Godparents are often selected due to the quality of their character and because of this, the parents want them to be around their child, especially during their upbringing and their journey in faith. At least one Godparent must also be Catholic. Godparents need to be at least 16 years of age.

Reception

Baptism is only celebrated once in a person’s life. The ceremony is usually carried out by a Catholic priest or deacon.

At Baptism, we come together to give thanks to our Creator God for the gift of this child or this person but in the sacrament, they become a child of and a much-welcomed member into our community of faith”
(Fr Darryl Mackie, ACM Chaplain).

Preparation

We require the parents to attend mass with the child before the Baptism, to become a part of our Catholic community. There will also be an interview and preparation process to complete.

Registration

At the ACM, our Chaplain is appointed part-time. Baptisms are on the third Sunday of the month at 11 am. To register for Baptism, please contact our office. Please note that all records are kept on the Archdioceses register of the St Andrew’s Catholic Church Malabar, as well as the Reconciliation Church.
