Reconciliation (Penance)

Sometimes we will hurt people and sometimes we will make mistakes. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we celebrate God’s healing gift to us his  unconditional forgiveness. As one of the sacraments of healing we ask our Creator God to heal us in our relationship with God and with one another. Reconciliation is not about us feeling deep guilt, but an opportunity to unburden ourselves and to be renewed with and by God.

The First Rite of Reconciliation is a one-to-one interaction with the priest and the Second Rite of Reconciliation is when we gather as a community to pray and reflect and then have one-to-one interaction with the priest. The Second Rite recognises that our community sometimes needs God’s healing.

Requirements

The candidate seeking Reconciliation needs to have firstly been Baptised . We will require evidence of Baptism through a Baptism Certificate. We ask that the candidate regularly attends Masses at the Reconciliation Church.

Preparation

Sacraments are offered to parishoners of our parish. If the candidate is not attending a Catholic school, there will be religious instruction provided by the ACM Team to ensure there is an understanding of the sacrament being entered into. We hold first sacraments in line with the local Catholic school preparation and this must be completed.

At the Reconciliation Church the sacramental program will have a cultural component as part of the preparation of the children.

“God’s love for us never ends and he is always wanting us to show our love for God and for each other. Admitting we sometimes don’t get it right, our Creator God extends his hand of love and healing so that we can be better people to one another”
(Fr Darryl Mackie, ACM Chaplain).

Registration

The ACM Team  will support you through the preparation of your child. Please note that all records are kept on the Archdiocese’s register of the St Andrew’s Catholic Church Malabar, as well as the Reconciliation Church.
